Lamp-Hanger Chair

A Ming-style lamp-hanger chair (deng-gua yi) built entirely with mortise-and-tenon joinery. The rear posts rise from the floor through the seat to a crest rail whose ends overhang the posts in the characteristic lamp-hanger silhouette. A single vertical back splat tenons into the seat below and the crest rail above. Aprons under the seat stiffen the frame, and three stretchers are stepped at three rising heights (front lowest, sides middle, rear highest) — the classic 'bu-bu-gao' pattern that resists racking without crossing tenons inside the legs.
