Bentwood Chair

A slatted chair: the side profile is sliced into a row of CNC-milled timber slats threaded on rods, with the backrest reclined to about 100 degrees from the seat. The foot is lengthened front and back so the slats meet the floor over a longer run, lowering the centre of gravity relative to the footprint for a more stable, tip-resistant stance. The middle slats are the thick ones; the two end slats on each side rise to a taller upturned profile and are made thinner, graduating from a slim outermost slat back to the thick middle -- shaped raised sides of unequal size. Seven rods tie the stack: two through the seat, two through the backrest and three across the base for rigidity. Every rod is positioned so its whole shank stays buried inside the slat band and its ends socket blind behind a solid cap; the back and base rods run through the raised end slats to capture them, while the seat rods thread only the middle slats and stay hidden behind the raised sides. A slim spacer ring tube on each rod fills every gap.
